Thornbury Cricket Club would like to celebrate international Women’s day by sharing the success of our expanding girls & women’s section. In 2019 our club had no female representation, but this is us today:
Over 30 girls playing cricket in both the girl’s teams and mixed youth teams. Over 30 women playing cricket. Our women train twice a week, 52 weeks of the year. Our Women won the Bristol softball league in their 1st season. Our Women teams are currently top of both indoor leagues. We have entered 2 softball teams & 1 hardball team for the 2022 season. We hosted our first girl’s festival in 2021. Girls U11's team in the winter indoor league. We now are the official home of Gloucestershire Ladies for 2022. We hosted a number of Western storm academy fixtures in 2021 We are hosting training sessions for the Western Storm academy in 2022. We hosted several county age group games for girls in 2021. We now have 3 county players in the Gloucestershire pathway. We have 14 female qualified coaches who help with our growing U6's-U9's section. We run a girls only Dynamos programme.
Off the field we have 3 female committee members (thanks to Jo Littlejohn, Sarah Bowden & Tracey Kenyon, aka TK). Also huge thanks to Mo Newton who has the thankless task of maintaining our entire youth membership. This has transformed our club into a welcoming, vibrant and inclusive environment where all are welcome.
The enthusiasm, energy and commitment the ladies show is truly remarkable and we as a club are so proud to have helped them into finding cricket, developing new skills and making new friends.
We also now have a thriving social scene with Prosecco sales at record levels!
Happy International Women's day to all women & girls at Thornbury Cricket Club!
