Thornbury Lightening secure first victory in Summer league against Hambrook

Having won the Toss, TK and vice captain Gail chose to Field. Simple game plan was to restrict Hambrook to a low total and chase it down!

Easing back into the start of the season, TK opened the bowling and set the standards high, limiting Hambrooks opening batters L Paul & E Cotteril to a total of 3 runs for the first over.

Our game got stronger throughout, minimising wide balls and using fast and aggressive fielding strategies. Thornbury took a total of 3 wickets, including a remarkable catch by Gail out on the boundary and our incredible hawk-eye wicket-keeper Gaenor.

Last two overs to Bowl, Olivia Nichols and TK both knew they had a challenge on their hands to try and restrict batters Elizabeth Naudes and Chloe Tilson any opportunities to hit 4’s and 6’s. Olivia managed to keep things tight, only giving away one four in her over. Hambrook finnished off with a net score of 112 runs after an outstanding performance by batter Elizabeth Naudes.

TK & Jude opened the batting and were off to a flying start, putting Thornbury in a strong position. Both batters tested Hambrook's fielding approach, slapping the ball for 4’s all over the field, utilising space and scoring 17 runs from the first over.

Middle-order batters Hazel Pook & Hayley Green also delivered an outstanding performance, taking a total of 30 runs from their four overs. Coming last into bat, both Sarah & Gaenor knew the pressure was on and needed a strong finish! Steady throughout their overs, it wasn’t until the end when Sarah performed a cut shot out into the offside boundary for four, scraping Thornbury over the winning line and taking a net total of 115 runs for the loss of just 2 wickets.

Well done to both squads and on behalf of TCC, we’d like to thank Hambrook for a brilliant start to the season for which both teams played in the right spirit of cricket.
